The ribbed wooden structure of the base of Gion table is inspired by an architectural feature of tea-houses found in the streets of Gion in Kyoto. The ordered arrangement of wooden ribs contrasts nicely with the more random arrangement of stones that comprise the terrazzo top.

These are inherent features of terrazzo, and are not considered to be defects.
